Partition Records

When multiple family members who are owners of a parcel of real estate cannot agree on how to divide the land amongst themselves, a partition action is commenced in Common Pleas Court. This often came about when no will was left, or the will left the land to multiple children, or the some of the children are of a second marriage. These petitions are especially useful for a genealogist as they must include all the names and relationships of the family members, and they often contain a history of prior owners. A real treasure trove of information.
